Graduate Profile: Annabel Inacia Boleta

Annabel Inacia Boleta is a fashion graduate from the Manchester School of Art.

"When I was in high school, I took Art, Textiles and Photography where I found my creative talent. I then lead on to take an Art Foundation course at Manchester School of Art, where I was able to grow more as a Fashion Designer and express myself through Fashion from experimenting."

Annabel grew up in the Lake District which is commonly known for its nature and outdoor activities. This was the inspiration point for the designer.

"My concept relates to bees, beekeeping and the traditional protective wear worn by the apiarists. Bees are such a vital element to the environment and the future of our planet, many people do not realise how significant they are to the survival of the human race."

Bees take a huge role in nature's ecosystem by transferring pollen between various plants which keeps the cycle of life.

Annabel's graduate collection features prints which were inspired by the intricate and abstract form of the honeycomb. "It was taken from a primary photograph and the colour was inspired through the ultraviolet vision in which bees see, looking at bold, iridescent colours."

The collection was also combined with the military uniform elements which are worn by the Chinese terracotta warriors. Annabel decided to combine outwear and sportswear to show the protective wear layer for the bee suit and armour of the terracotta warriors.

Sustainability is also a huge part of Annabel's brand. Annabel prefers to use recycled mailing bags and paper for the delivery notes and business cards.

"I also like to recycle any small pieces of fabric so it is not wasted. I try to source dead-stock fabric wherever possible. The smallest, more conscious decisions will end up having more of an impact and contribution to sustainable fashion than you think."

For Annabel, the fashion designer Stella McCartney is a role model when it comes to sustainability. "I try and make as many responsible decisions as I can. I am always aware that I can do more and be better. It's all about educating yourself."

While talking about the most rewarding thing about being a designer, Annabel has mentioned that it is about hearing the feedback from the clients.

"Waking up to the e-mails from customers just makes my day knowing I have been able to successfully create and deliver a product that the customer is happy with."

The feedback inspires Annabel for the new achievements. "Ever since I was 15 I always knew I wanted to own my clothing brand and be my boss. At the same time, I love to learn more and experience new things."

At the moment Annabel is developing her brand. The designer is looking forward to collaborate with other creatives and learn new things along the way.
